sleepy serene neighbourhood stuck in sticky time:
white raincoat hung on garden gates,
always drying, never dry.
you borrowed it one april shower,
waited too long to wash the mud away,
now the dirt from that trip still hides in its seams.
cat – sloppy, lazy – rolling in the dust in the middle of the road.
broken lamp post. hanging upon itself? curious sight
there is a mango tree in the curve
of the corner
of the garden
of the house.
we’d race each other to the top,
climbing her branches, limbs upon limbs,
remember? what fun. and one day,
a branch snapped and the neighbours stole all the mangoes while they could.
but mangoes will curdle,
and cement will crack,
and branches will give way to ivy,
and time will unstick and move her merry way.
