fleeting, untouchable

wisps of smoke from burnt-out birthday candles

hushed hellos and forgotten goodbyes

spiderwebs, spinning, in thin, thin, strings

we want to be:

glorious, grand

the crescendo at the end of the symphony

the fireworks at the turn of the year

a glittering bubble about to burst

we want to be:

goddess, defying

unblinking, blinding, shimmering, gold

overflowingly immaculate, fountain of truth

sickening tooth-rotting tongue-rolling sweet

we want to be:

eternal, paradoxical

an unending thread stitching through the sky

to witness the last flicker of a dying star

the unbreakable oath cursing the jewel

we want to

live and live until we live too much.
